MAYNARD -- Richard "Dick" Paulson, 82, of Maynard died Thursday at the Golden Living Center in Hopkins.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Maynard Lutheran Church. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Grove City. Military honors will be by the Maynard American Legion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

He was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Maurice and Beulah (Rossman) Paulson. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Grove City, where he attended school and graduated in 1944. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945.

He married Patricia "Pat" Lawson of Grove City in 1947. Then he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. After graduation, he worked for a few years in Minneapolis and then joined his father in the retail hardware business in Maynard. He owned Paulson's Our Own Hardware store in Maynard for about 25 years. He retired in 1977. He continued to live in Maynard until 2005. Then he moved to Copper Glen Assisted Living Residence in Montevideo. In 2007 he moved to Minnetonka.

He served in Maynard as a volunteer fireman and fire chief, city councilman and mayor. He was a member of the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Masons and the Shriners.

He is survived by his son: Jay (and Sue) Paulson of Shorewood; a granddaughter; and a sister: Eileen (and Anro) Erickson of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his wife.
