PENNOCK -- Rick Don Haats, 52, of Pennock died from an apparent heart attack on Sunday while deer hunting with his son near Sunburg.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be at Mamrelund Lutheran Cemetery in Pennock.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

He was born May 1, 1954, in San Diego, Calif., to Donald and Bernice (Schriener) Haats. The family moved to Richfield when he was young and to Willmar in 1969. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1973.

He was married in 1976, and later divorced. He worked at Juba's and then for Burlington Northern Railroad. Since the late 1970s, he has owned and operated a masonry construction business and a snow removal service in the Willmar area.

He is survived by his children: Matthew (and Danielle) Haats of Pennock, Kellie Haats of Willmar (and Tim Larson), Lindsey Haats of Willmar (and Mark Mattila); special friend, Michele Magnuson of Pennock; her children: Melissa and Matthew; five grandchildren; and two siblings: Candice (and David) Brown of New Ulm, and Daniel (and Jane) Haats of New London

He was preceded in death by his parents.
