WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater College Warriors continue to come up short, losing 13-7 to Minnesota West Saturday at Hodapp Field.

The Warriors (1-7) had enough de-fense, but didn't score until late in the game on a 35-yard pass from Des-mond Moody to Dan Drex-ler.

"These kids keep working for me," said Ridgewater first-year coach Rob Baumgarn. "That's been my biggest joy. They never quit."

The visitors from Worthington scored a touchdown on the game's opening possession but the Warriors' defense, led by linebacker Blake Hagert, didn't break after that. Omar Peart's second field goal in the first minute of the fourth period made it 13-0.

A penalty and a short kickoff gave Ridgewater the ball at the Bluejays' 35. Moody, taking over for starter Lance Bussler, found Drexler all alone at the five.

Ridgewater did little on the ground against a defense that has allowed 15 points during a three-game win streak.

Defensive tackle Ben Thonvold said losing is frustrating, but he adds: "We're all trying hard and it's still fun playing football."
