Ridgewater closes in on title

WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater Lady Warriors clinched at least a tie for the Minnesota Community College Southern Division volleyball title Wednesday night, sweeping Rochester 30-22, 30-25, 30-15.

WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater Lady Warriors clinched at least a tie for the Minnesota Community College Southern Division volleyball title Wednesday night, sweeping Rochester 30-22, 30-25, 30-15.

Ridgewater improved to 7-0 in the Southern Division with three matches remaining. One more win would clinch the title outright for the Lady Warriors, who were third in the division last season.

"We played very well tonight," said Ridgewater coach Val Swanson. "We got a little momentum going and we didn't give it up."

Terra Billiet, a 5-11 sophomore, had 10 kills in 13 errorless attacks for the Lady Warriors. Freshman Ashley Olson had nine kills and sophomore Kristen Raitz six.

Freshman Katie Johnson and freshman Laura Suter blasted seven ace serves each from among the 20 Ridgewater amassed in the match. Sara Primus, a sophomore, had three kills, three ace blocks and three ace serves.
