WILLMAR - Ridgewater College is seeking submissions of original artwork for permanent exhibit on the school’s Willmar campus.
The college announced in a news release that it will purchase the artworks through the Minnesota Percent for Art in Public Spaces program. State law requires an appropriation of 1 percent of a building project’s budget, up to $100,000.
The college is in the midst of a $14 million remodeling, demolition and construction project. In 2013, the agriculture and veterinary technology areas were remodeled.
This month, the Student Center building reopened. It includes a new bookstore, cafeteria and student services offices. This summer, a partial demolition and remodeling will be finished in Building H, which houses administration.
Artists may submit a portfolio showing ready-to-display, two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art. The college does not plan to commission works for this project.
The artists should take into account the mission of Ridgewater College “to provide quality educational opportunities for diverse student learners in an inclusive, supportive and accessible environment.”
The committee will consider both individual pieces and collections.
The artwork should enhance and beautify the facility, be thought- provoking but not confrontational, and bring about an appreciation for art. The art must be durable, low-maintenance, safe, and original.
Materials must be received by April 18 and sent to Ridgewater College, Attn: Liz VanDerBill, 2101 15th Ave. N.W., Willmar, MN 56201.
Portfolios should contain a minimum of:
- A cover letter with contact information;
- A resume;
- Digital images in standard JPEG format, 1920 x 1920 pixels, stored on a CD or DVD (websites, slides, PowerPoint or emailed/website portfolios will not be considered);
- Price listing, including title, dimensions and description of the work;
- A self-addressed envelope if the artist would like materials returned.
Submissions will be reviewed by a committee of employees of Ridgewater College and a representative of the art community.
Any Minnesota artist is eligible to submit his or her work. All applicants are encouraged to visit the site from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff is available for personal tours from 10 a.m. to noon on April 1 or April 10. If a personal tour of the facility is desired, contact VanDerBill at 320-222-6090 or Jen Doering at 320-222-7608.
