MINNEAPOLIS -- The Brute-Adidas Invitational at Augsburg University provides a good early-season test for college wrestlers, especially junior-college grapplers.

Ridgewater College wrestlers went 22-14 on Saturday against mostly senior-college competition at the Augsburg Open. That delighted first-year Warriors coach Tom Beyer, who commented: "We wrestled better every match."

Trent Molacek, freshman from Willmar, went 4-0 to win the 174-pound Bronze Division. Kurt Salmen, freshman from Dassel-Cokato, took first at 165-pounds, also 4-0 in the Bronze Division.

Freshman heavyweight Seth McGregor out of McCook Central, S.D., went 3-1 to place runner-up in the Gold Division, the highest of the three classes.

"That's a great finish in that division," stated Beyer.

This was the second tournament for the Warriors, who wrestle the St. John's University junior varsity at the college gym in Willmar, the home opener.
