Dreier, defense leads Ridgwater men in win.

Tim Dreier scored the game's first 10 points and went on to record a game-high 22 points while leading the Ridgwater College Warriors to a 65-45 win over Northland Community College on a snowy Saturday afternoon.

It was the fourth win for the Warriors in the new season, one more than all of last season. Cory Nietfeld put in 10 points and Tom Boike eight. The Warrior defense held visitors to 25 percent shooting.

Northland (4-3) pulled into Willmar late Friday, easily beating the Storm which started around 8:30 a.m., after taking a win at Minnesota West at Worthington. The school in Thief River Falls was the NJCAA Division III runner-up in 2007.

The spark that the Ridgwater Lady Warriors displayed in Friday's win over Itasca seemed absence Saturday. The result was a 55-54 loss to the Northland CC Pioneers early Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors had a last chance to win with five seconds left and the ball under their own basket. But Tara Thielke's coast-to-coast charge downcourt ended with the ball bouncing off a foot in the key under the Northland basket before she could unleash the potential game-winning shot. Center Lisa Nielsen led the Willmar team with 15 points and 16 rebounds. The Pioneers, a national tournament entrant last season, improved to 4-3.
