MOORHEAD -- Brandon Schunk, a returning All-America for Ridgewater College, showed good early form by going 3-0 to win his weight class at the Minnesota State University, Moorhead Wrestling Open on Thursday.
All three of Schunk's wins came against Moorhead wrestlers, two of them one-time Minnesota High School champions, according to Tom Beyer, Ridgewater head coach.
Trent Molacek, a freshman from Willmar, was 3-1, as was freshman Kurt Salmen of Dassel-Cokato.
Seth McGregor, at heavyweight, went 2-1 to take second place.
"We wrestled quite well," said Beyer. "We left some of our sophomores at home because they were a little banged up."
