GLENWOOD -- Robert Clayton "Bob" Bergman, 72, of Glenwood, formerly of Minneapolis, died Monday at his home, from Leukemia.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood United Parish Church. Urn burial will be in the spring at the Bergman Memorial Bench in the City Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Donations preferred to Central Square Cultural and Civic Center in Glenwood.
He was born May 23, 1935, in Minneapolis to Parker and Pearl (Hiltunen) Bergman. He studied voice and music theory at the University of Minnesota, MacPhail School of Music and was a graduate of Brown Institute of Broadcasting and Electronics.
He married Sandra Tangen in 1962, in St. Paul. In 1969, they moved to Glenwood. In 1981, they started to spend summers working in Medora, N.D., where he performed in the Medora Musical. He worked in the local manufacturing field when not performing. He performed with the Florentine Opera of Milwaukee, Chicago Opera Theatre, St. Paul Civic Opera and as baritone soloist at St. Marks Cathedral in Minneapolis, as well as the guest soloist at other churches. For 22 years, he was a leading baritone with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera. He was on a national tour of schools and colleges with lyceum programs. He did special guest appearances and club work with Associated Clubs.
He is survived by his wife; sons: Jon and James (and Karman), all of Glenwood; daughters: Gretchen Collver of Ramsey, Kristine (and Russ) Bakke of East Bethel, and Barbara (and Steve) Jurek of Glenwood; a brother: Craig (and Nancy) Bergman of Minneapolis; sister: Barbara (and Ray) Hand of Springfield, Mass.; and eight grandchildren.
