Robert E. 'Swede' Zempel

MONTEVIDEO -- Robert Eugene "Swede" Zempel, 78, of Montevideo, died Saturday at the Luther Haven Nursing Home.
The service will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Montevideo to Louis and Bertha (Kling) Zempel. He attended rural schools. He served in the U.S. Army during 1952 and 1953, serving in Germany.
Following his discharge he worked for a short time with a tiling company before finding employment with Mooney's Construction. He worked at road construction for more than 40 years before retiring. He lived on the family farm his entire life until he became a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home three months ago.
He is survived by his fiancée: Jean Kelm; a brother: Palmer Zempel of Montevideo; and three sisters: Florine Nordby, Bernice Goulson and Dorothy Adamson, all of Montevideo.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
