WILLMAR -- Roosevelt Elementary School in Willmar has received a $4,000 award for its breakfast program.
The Midwest Dairy Council chose three schools to receive $8,000 in awards in the Expanding Breakfast program.
The award program was created to take breakfast to the students instead of making students come to the cafeteria, giving all students the opportunity to eat breakfast and increase partici-pation, according to a release from the Dairy Council.
The Expanding Breakfast strategies include breakfast in the classroom, grab and go breakfast or breakfast after first period.
At Roosevelt, students eat breakfast in their classrooms after the first period bell. The district provides free breakfast for all children in grades K-8. The award money will be used for nutrition education materials.
