WILLMAR -- Search consultants have identified half a dozen candidates for becoming Rice Memorial Hospital's next chief executive.
Preliminary interviews with the search firm of Witt/Kieffer are being scheduled with another four or five candidates.
By the end of January, a slate of 10 or 11 semifinalists will be ready to be presented to the hospital search committee, said Dale Hustedt, Rice Hospital's interim chief executive.
"It's moving along just as planned," he said in an update this week.
The city-owned hospital's top position became open this past September when Lawrence Massa, the former chief executive, left for a new position as executive director of the Minnesota Hospital Association.

A timetable calls for having the finalists selected by late February and a new chief executive chosen by mid-March.
