NEW LONDON -- Word travels fast in rural Minnesota, especially when it relates to the four-year-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of Daniel Lee Newville.
Newville, then 18, disappeared Aug. 1, 2002, after a party in New London and the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office remains in the dark as to his whereabouts.
However, Newville's disappearance has been the subject of several recent rumors.
Kandiyohi County Sheriff Dan Hartog said Thursday no arrests have been made, nor has a body been found.
One rumor suggested that Newville's body had been found in septic tank, Hartog said. "There's no truth to the rumor," he said.

The Sheriff's Office performed some follow-up searches with cadaver dogs about month ago. Hartog said some people may have witnessed the searches and come to their own conclusions.
However, Hartog said the Sheriff's Office routinely does additional searches in an effort to attain more information. "We're always doing something to find any leads we can," he said.
Questions still remain as to who started the rumors and why.
The Sheriff's Office contacted Newville's in an effort to squash the rumors after they surfaced. "So hopefully they did get the message to Russ," Hartog said. Russell Newville is Daniel's father and is currently deployed to Iraq.
Hartog asked that anyone with information pertaining to Newville's disappearance contact the Sheriff's Department at 320-214-6700 or 320-235-2244.
