MONTEVIDEO -- James Russell Kranz, 78, of Montevideo died Tuesday at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Burial will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening at Anderson Funeral home in Montevideo and with the family from 5 to 7 p.m.
He was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Montevideo to Charles and Beulah (Ruff) Kranz. He attended rural schools.

He married Lola Groothuis on Nov. 20, 1949, in Clara City. They lived on a farm near Montevideo.
He is survived by four children: Jim (and Arlene) Kranz of Montevideo, Larry (and Barb) Kranz of Milan, Kathy (and Ron) Arneson of Montevideo, Debra Kranz of Faribault; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two siblings: Charles Kranz of Montevideo and Delores Schoep of Artesia, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2006; and two sisters.
