DAWSON -- Sam Buel Strom, 92, of Dawson, died Monday at Lutheran Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a Masonic Service at 7:15 p.m. at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

He was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Hamlin Township, rural Dawson, to Benjamin and Mary (Lewis) Strom. He attended consolidated school until 8th grade and then worked on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters. He then attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to become an electrician and worked for Shorty Lough Electric in Dawson. In 1947, he joined Ottertail Power Company and worked in the Dawson area as a lineman, retiring in 1981.

He married Angelie Miller in 1947 in rural Dawson.

He was active in the Masonic Lodge for 49 years, served as commander of the VFW and was also a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Dawson Fire Department for 24 years, serving as fire chief for 18 of those years. He played town team baseball and for many years, managed the concession stand at Nelson Field. He organized and hung the city of Dawson's Christmas decorations for many years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Peggy (and Larry) Danielson and Mary Jo (and David) Hendrickson, all of Montevideo; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Margaret Jouebert and Bessie Mae (and Lee) Warner.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
