Schaefer boosts Hancock past Wheaton, 21-18

WHEATON -- Darren Schaefer passed for 244 yards and three touchdowns as Hancock rallied from an 18-0 halftime deficit to up-end Wheaton 21-18 in the Section 3-Nine Man semifinals Saturday.

Hancock, the No. 3 seed, will now meet top-seeded Chokio-Alberta/Herman-Norcross at 3 p.m. Friday in the Fargodome.

Down 18-0, Hancock got on the board in the third quarter when Schaefer hit Nate Hacker with a 16-yard scoring pass.

The Owls then scored twice in the fourth quarter while the defense stiffened.

Schaefer found Mack Grunig from six yards out and Tanner Gramm for a nine-yard score. Grunig kicked all three conversions.

Wheaton failed on all three two-point conversion attempts, which proved to be the diffeence in the game.

Schaefer completed 19-of-27 passes. Casey Gramm caught nine passes for 76 yards and Nate Holleman four for 78 yards.
