PAYNESVILLE -- Taylor Haag and Jen Paul drew walks to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for Paynesville and Laura Schaefer followed with a three-run homer to lift the Bulldogs to a 3-0 win in the Section 6AA-South softball quarterfinal action on Friday.
That was all the offense the Bulldogs would need as sophomore pitcher Whitney Woehler spun a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. She walked only one batter.
For Schaefer, it was the senior catcher's eighth home run of the spring. She finished 2-for-3. Keeley Meagher also went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.
Paynesville will now face Minnewaska Area in the semifinals Tuesday at a site to be determined.
