LITCHFIELD -- Litchfield School Board members toured the renovated high school as part of the regular Monday meeting. The first phase of construction on the high school is complete and the building is ready for the first day of school on Tuesday, according to Superintendent Bill Wold.
The work includes updating the heating and air conditioning and electrical services, replacing the windows, moving the school offices and building a new commons and entry area. In addition, improvements have been made to the school's surveillance system. The new entry will improve security, as the school entrance can be observed from the office, Wold said. "It will also help with student movement throughout the building," he said.
The improvements are the first phase of a $12.5 million improvement project at the school, which was built in 1964. Next summer, work will begin on the locker rooms and pool. The locker rooms will be gutted and rebuilt and the pool will be updated with new heating and cooling systems and lighting fixtures.
District voters in December 2004 approved issuing $12.5 million in bonds for the mechanical and safety improvements at the high school.
The board also heard reports on the capital outlay projects including installation of a new boiler at Lake Ripley Elementary School and maintenance work including fencing and flooring projects.
