ST. PAUL -- Joe Schoolmeesters of Litchfield shot a 1-under 71 during the second round of the 103rd MGA Amateur Championship Tuesday to move into a four-way tie for fourth place.
A day after carding three birdies and three bogeys en route to shooting par, Schoolmeesters pocketed five birdies Tuesday at Midland Hills Country Club. But a double bogey and two bogeys hindered Schoolmeesters' chances of claiming the lead.
Andrew Paulson owns a one-shot lead over Matt Schneider and Johnny Larson at 4-under 140.
John Spreiter (75-73--148) of Litchfield, in a six-way tie for 27th, was the only other area competitor to make the cut after the 156-player field was trimmed to 61 players. Today's final round begins at 8:10 a.m. with Schoolmeesters teeing off at 11:20 a.m. and Spreiter at 9:50 a.m.
Drew Dvorak (78-75--153) of Litchfield missed the cut by one stroke while Josh Hagstrom (79-76--155) of Island Pine, Justin Buysse (76-84--160) of Minnewaska Golf Club and Mitchell Mackedanz (85-75--150) of Koronis Hills also failed to qualify for the final round.
