The Alumni Association Awards have been announced as part of Homecoming 2020, with a theme of “Mustangs Come Together — Six Feet Apart” at the Marshall school. The awards are presented to alumni in recognition of professional success and the positive reflection made on the university and fellow alumni. Among the award recipients was:


Dr. Peter Grahn, Willmar High School graduate, the Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) award. He is a 2011 graduate of SMSU and is assistant professor in neurosurgery and physical medicine and rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Willmar Area Community Foundation

The Willmar Area Community Foundation awarded 21 students from Kandiyohi County academic scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year. The foundation administers 10 separate scholarship funds established by individuals, families and businesses to support area students in their educational pursuits. Receiving scholarships, listed by high school, were:
