ELK RIVER -- It's too early to know how Brad Karl's Big Buck from Kandiyohi County will rank when the new, revised edition of the Minnesota Classic Record Book is published. The 25th spot in the book for a non-typical deer is currently one with a Boone and Crocket score of 2243/8, according to Hugh Price, its editor.

The record book is revised every four years, and there are about 2,500 new records collected during each four-year period, Price told the Tribune in an e-mail.

The current non-typical record holder in Minnesota is a buck with a score of 2685/8. It is credited to Mitch Vakoch, and was taken in 1974 in Norman County. The second deer on the list scores 2582/8, according to Price.

He is anticipating 500 new whitetail entries at the Minnesota Deer Classic, which will be held March 10-12 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul.
