WILLMAR - A defendant was placed on probation for 10 years and ordered to pay restitution for his role in the January 2016 burglary of stores in the Kandi Mall.
Sylvestre Solis, 28, of Watertown, South Dakota, appeared Monday for sentencing in Kandiyohi County District Court in Willmar.
He was ordered to serve 60 days in jail for a felony second-degree burglary conviction, but the court stayed imposition of the sentence for 10 years provided he makes restitution. If not working, he must perform community service work to pay for fines.
Solis, was formerly a security guard at the mall, was among three defendants charged in the theft of nearly $8,000 worth of merchandise from stores in the mall after business hours.
Restitution of more than $9,000 has been ordered among the three defendants.

Brittany Jo Hinkemeyer, 20, was sentenced last month for her role. She also must serve 10 years of probation and pay restitution.
An arrest warrant was filed last year in the case for Joshua Wayne Roschild, 26. He has not appeared in court.
Court documents say the three took items from three stores before their attempts to enter the Sears store triggered an alarm and they fled.
