WILLMAR -- Selmer J. Sletten, 95, of Willmar died Saturday at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
The service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Harvey Anderson Funeral Home of Willmar is handling arrangements.
He was born on Aug. 19, 1911, to Torger and Jennie (Selseth) Sletten in Willmar. He attended Willmar Public Schools and graduated in 1929. While in high school, he worked in the department store of P.C. Peterson and Sons.

He married Alma Johnson on Jan. 18, 1935, in Willmar. In 1943, he began work with the Great Northern Railroad as a file clerk and later held various office positions including trainmaster's clerk. He was a timekeeper-accountant for the Dakota Division of the train and engine service for the Burlington Northern when he retired. He and Alma moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in 2001 and to Bethesda Heritage Center in 2002.
He was a long-time member of the Sons of Norway and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, in which he held all the elective officers in the local unit including president. He served, for 12 years, as treasurer of the Willmar Labor Home and on the Rice Hospital Board of Directors. He was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church where he was active on various committees.
He is survived by his children: Gerald (and Norma) Sletten of Marshall, and Gail (and John) Robertson of Vilas, N.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister.
