Semi truck driver injured in Swift County accident

Roger Ray Salo, 59, of Aberdeen, South Dakota was injured Sunday night when the semi he was driving left the road and tipped on its side on U.S. Highway 12, north of Appleton.

APPLETON – The South Dakota man was injured late Sunday night in Swift County when the semi truck he was driving left the road and tipped on its side.

The incident was reported at 10:43 p.m. on U.S. Highway 12 and 190th Avenue Southwest, north of Appleton.

According to the State Patrol Roger Ray Salo, 59, of Aberdeen, South Dakota was driving a 2017 Kenworth semi east on Highway 12 when the vehicle entered the ditch and hit a field approach, causing the semi to tip onto its side.

Salo was taken to a St. Cloud hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol report.

The road was dry at the time of the accident, alcohol was not a factor and the driver was wearing a seat belt.

The Swift County Sheriff’s Office, Appleton Police Department, Appleton Fire Department, Appleton Rescue Squad and Lifelink assisted at the scene.
