FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A fast-moving winter storm producing snow and high winds has cut visibility to zero at times in parts of eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota.
Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney in North Dakota is advising no travel outside the Fargo city limits.
Across the river in Minnesota, Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist also is advising against travel. Bergquist was attempting to get to a fire at a farm shop south of Moorhead and said he could hardly see the road.
There have been some accidents. Authorities say most involve vehicles skidding off roadways. Winds have been clocked at close to 50 miles per hour in the Fargo area.
The storm hit early Monday evening, and temperatures dropped 10 to 20 degrees in about an hour.
