APPLETON -- Signora Byre, 89, of Appleton died Tuesday at Appleton Area Health Services.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in rural Appleton. Burial will be in Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

She was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Hegbert Township, Swift County, to Ole and Hannah (Johnson) Brustuen. She was raised on the family farm in Hegbert Township where she went to country school through the eighth grade. She completed her formal education at the Agricultural School in Morris.

In June 1946, she married Conrad Byre. After farming briefly in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota, they moved back to Hegbert Township where they farmed together. They were members of the Good Shepherd Church and the Long Lake Church Association.

She was one of the original home health aides when the program started and she worked for the organization for many years. She was a member of Sons of Norway.

She is survived by two children: Calvin Byre of Norman, Okla., and Susan (and Richard) Massey of Appleton; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; daughter-in-law: Vicki Byre; an infant sister; two sisters; and three brothers.
