WILLMAR -- Snow is falling this afternoon in Willmar, and the area is under a winter weather advisory until midnight.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory this afternoon for western and southwestern Minnesota, including the towns of Willmar, Benson, Granite Falls, Glenwood, Litchfield, Madison, Montevideo and Olivia.

Snow will spread across the region this afternoon, becoming heavier as the afternoon wears on and into the evening. Accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is likely by evening, with totals of up to 4 inches by midnight.

North winds are forecast this evening, causing blowing and drifting snow. The Weather Service warns that visibility could be reduced both by the falling snow and the blowing snow.
