Soldiers' welcome home celebration to be Sunday

MARSHALL -- The 150 soldiers in Company A of the 1-151st Field Artillery are expected to return to Marshall sometime Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota National Guard announced Wednesday.

MARSHALL -- The 150 soldiers in Company A of the 1-151st Field Artillery are expected to return to Marshall sometime Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota National Guard announced Wednesday.

The Minnesota National Guard soldiers arrived in Fort Dix, N.J., this past Sunday after serving almost a year in Iraq. They are going through debriefing and reintegration activities this week.

Upon arriving Sunday in Marshall, the soldiers will proceed by bus through downtown Marshall and stop at the former Wal-Mart parking lot on the corner of state Highway 23 and U.S. Highway 59. There, they will be united with their families.

The soldiers will then be honored in an official welcome home ceremony at the former Marshall high school on Saratoga Street. Specific times will be announced today.

The Southwest Minnesota State University band will play, and the soldiers and their families will be honored by local and military officials, according to the National Guard. For more information on the event and the soldiers' homecoming, visit www.151fa.com .
