WILLMAR -- Naul Uriel Solorio, 22, of Willmar, was arraigned Monday in Kandiyohi County District Court on a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation stemming from a weekend domestic assault.

Unconditional bail was set at $10,000 by Judge Kathryn N. Smith. Conditional release was allowed on Solorio's personal recognizance, with stipulations that he have no contact with the alleged victim, be excluded from her Willmar residence and possess no firearms or dangerous weapons. Solorio also faces misdemeanor charges for domestic assault and damage to property.

According to the complaint, police were called Sunday to a Willmar apartment on a domestic. The woman said he was her ex-boyfriend and that they have a daughter together. They had argued at his home about phone numbers in her cell phone. He had accused her of seeing other people and got angry and pushed her around, choked her and covered her mouth with his hand so she couldn't breathe, the complaint states. He also threw her cell phone and broke it.

When officers interviewed Solorio, he said they fought, but he did not want the relationship to end badly, so he tried to get her to talk and, at one point, sat on her. He said he placed his hand over her mouth to get her to stop talking.

Solorio's next court appearance is Sept. 24.
