WILLMAR -- The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, S.D., has issued a fire weather watch that includes southwestern Minnesota.
The watch is in effect Friday afternoon for areas along
and north of Interstate 90 extending from the James River Valley
in east central South Dakota to southwest Minnesota because of low
humidity values, the presence of very dry fine fuels and a potential for strong winds.

Strong southerly winds are possible Friday ahead of a low moving across the Northern Plains this weekend. Winds could average 25 to 35 mph, and
minimum humidity values will also fall into the 25 to 32 percent range. These factors together with the lack of rain in those areas - an inch or less since September - prompted the fire weather watch.
