WILLMAR -- America's energy future will be the focus of speakers who will address an energy summit from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Willmar Conference Center. Cost is $50 per person.
A local grassroots organization called Citizens Energy Plan will sponsor the summit.
Citizens Energy Plan President Vidar Lee Byberg of Willmar will explain how the organization has the potential to re-shape America's future by developing and presenting a national energy plan to Congress by September 2010.
Joe Shuster of New Prague, a chemical engineer and entrepreneur, will outline a qualified plan for moving beyond fossil fuel dependence to a future of clean, eternal and affordable energy.
A primer on "cap and trade'' policies and preservation of reliable and affordable electricity will be presented by Christina Pierson, executive director of Partners for Affordable Energy of Minneapolis, and Mark Glaess, general manager of Minnesota Rural Electric Association in Maple Grove.

Massoud Amin, professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Minnesota, will discuss the state of the nation's power grid and its potential to remain secure and serve the nation's growing needs.
Rolf Nordstrom, director of the Great Plains Institute in Minneapolis, will talk about the importance of pursuing hydrogen fuel, biofuels and electricity.
Donna Boonstra, Citizens Energy Plan executive director and board member of Kandiyohi Power Cooperative, will discuss why she became involved in energy issues.
