BENSON -- Stanley John Kopp, 96, of Benson died Friday at Swift County Benson Hospital.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be in the Benson city cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born Dec. 6, 1909, in Waterman, Ill., to Enos and Anna Beiler Kopp. He attended grade school in Illinois and Iowa and graduated from high school at Highmore, S.D. He farmed with his father and brothers near New Underwood, S.D., for several years and later worked for a rancher.

He moved to Minnesota in 1939. He joined the U.S. Army in January of 1941 and was assigned to the air section of the 103rd division in Camp Claiborne, La.

The division was shipped to Marseille, France, in October 1944. He was awarded the Air Medal for service in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in Oct. of 1945. He married Harriet Johnson on Sept. 4, 1949.

He worked for Quinn Brothers Implement and Bertas Implement for nearly 30 years as manager of the parts department. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was also a member of the Benson Golf Club. In 1996, he moved into the Scofield Apartments in Benson where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his daughters: Carol (and Mike) Burns of Mankato, Susan (and Brian) Johnson of Walnut Grove, and Kathryn (and Jim) Nelson of Shorewood; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five brothers; and two sisters.
