NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) - A state trooper who reconstructs auto accidents was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Brown County, law enforcement authorities said.

The 47-year-old Mahtomedi man was driving a 1992 Plymouth van north on County Road 13 the afternoon of Nov. 17 when he drove on to the gravel shoulder. He over-corrected his steering, lost control and ended up in a plowed field.

The man was taken to the New Ulm Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. His van was destroyed.

Brown County Chief Deputy Bob Christensen said the man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. He would not elaborate on the reasons for the arrest on Monday because no formal charges had been filed.

Christensen said the man was not jailed.

State Patrol Chief Mark Dunaski was disappointed in the arrest, Department of Public Safety spokesman Kevin Smith said.

"Especially for an agency that spends a whole lot of time arresting drunk drivers, getting the drunk driving message out and asking motorists to make good decisions," Smith said. "This is something that he thinks just doesn't fit with what state troopers ought to be doing."
