COLD SPRING – A Stearns County Sheriff’s squad car collided with a vehicle Friday night in Cold Spring.

Both drivers escaped serious injuries.

The accident was reported at 9:47 p.m. on Stearns County Road 2 near the intersection of 11th Street Northeast in Cold Spring

According to a news release, Sgt. Steven Noetzel was driving a marked 2017 Ford Explorer on County Road 2 when he activated his emergency lights and attempted to make a U-turn to make a traffic stop.

A 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Tyler Joseph Klein, 24, of Cold Spring, was following the squad car and impacted with the squad’s driver side front tire area.

Noetzel and Klein were checked for injuries on scene by Cold Spring Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance but neither driver required additional medical attention.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the accident.
