ST. CLOUD - Two people were able to swim to safety and another person was rescued from an island after their canoe capsized Thursday evening on the Sauk River.
According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Jared Stroeing, 27, of Sauk Rapids and Lisa Fowler, 25, of St. Cloud were able to swim to shore and get out of the river on their own, but Scott Nordmann, 28, of St. Cloud was rescued by the Sartell/LeSauk Fire Department.
The canoe capsized near the Heim’s Mill canoe access and the incident was reported around 7:30 p.m. All three individuals were treated and released at the scene.
The incident was investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, which reminds citizens that the water on area rivers and streams is unusually high and swift-moving and can quickly lead to a dangerous situation for anyone who travels on the waters.
