Steve Gardner files to seek Kandiyohi County District 2 seat

Steve Gardner of Willmar has filed to seek election to the District 2 seat on the Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners. The district covers the east, southeast and near west sides of the city of Willmar, including downtown. He is opposing Steve Ahmann's re-election bid.

WILLMAR — Steve Gardner announced Tuesday he filed to seek election as the District 2 Commissioner on the Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners.

Gardner, of Willmar, is seeking the seat currently held by Steve Ahmann.

Gardner said in his announcement that the COVID-19 crisis requires visionary leadership to have a recovery that works for everyone.

"I reject the politics of division, and I call for everyone to work together to make our neighborhoods and towns better," he said in a news release.

Gardner said he is ready to work to bring everyone to together as Minnesotans and residents of Willmar and Kandiyohi County. He said he is looking forward to having positive conversations with the voters of District 2.

Gardner is a managed print specialist for Bennett Office Technologies of Willmar. He is currently a commissioner and past chairperson of the city of Willmar Planning Commission, on which he has served since 2015, and he is a member and past chair of the Leadership Committee of Willmar Lakes Area Vision 2040 project.

He served four years representing Ward 2 on the Willmar City Council, six years as a member and past chair of the board for the Humane Society of Kandiyohi and Meeker Counties and is a past board member of the Willmar Area Multicultural Business Center. He has also served as a minister for the Universal Life Church Ministries since December 2016.

Ahmann announced Tuesday he is seeking re-election to the seat he's held since 2016.

Kandiyohi County’s Second Commissioner District is all urban, covering the east, southeast and near west sides of the city of Willmar, including the downtown district.
