MONTEVIDEO - Supporters of a proposal to develop a veterans home in Montevideo will rally Tuesday in preparation for a renewed effort for legislative support.

State Sen. Andrew Lang, R-Olivia, and State Rep. Tim Miller, R-Prinsburg, will speak at the rally starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion in Montevideo.

The legislators will provide an update on the status of developing a veterans home for the Montevideo area, according to Marv Garbe, chairman of the Montevideo Area Veterans Home.

Veterans and local governments in the area have been seeking state support to build a 70-bed nursing home in Montevideo. A similar 70-bed facility would be developed in Bemidji as part of the proposal to address the need for care in rural Minnesota.

Montevideo proponents have raised nearly $5 million in local pledges and sought state funds of $13 million, with expectations the federal government would match the funds.

Garbe is encouraging local veterans, citizens and elected officials to attend the rally to show support for the project.
