BENSON -- The Swift County Board approved Tuesday a 2006 budget with a $358,000 deficit.
The budget was approved at $14,358,046 with $13,999,171 budgeted for revenues. The $358,875 difference will be covered with reserves, county administrator John Chattin said.
The board also approved the 2006 levy at $5,892,012, which is a 6.36 percent increase from this year's levy.
The budget increased by $1,400 from what was discussed at the board's last meeting. Funding to the Glacial Ridge Trail and Prairie Country Resource Conservation and Development were added to the budget, Chattin said.
Also at the meeting, the board agreed to hire Neil Henriksen as a part-time deputy for court security. His wage was not available.

The board also approved purchasing a 24-hour voice recorder system for 9-1-1 calls because the previous system had stopped working. The system will be purchased through MacTEC for $19,980.
The board also approved advertising for a full-time Web site developer/technical support assistant. The position, however, has not been finalized because the county needs to work out agreements with the Benson School District, city and Swift County-Benson Hospital for sharing the position, Chattin said.
The Swift County Board will have a special meeting at 10 a.m. Dec. 30 to consider year-end bills and any other business.
