Swift County Board authorizes patrol car purchase

BENSON -- The Swift County Board of Commissioners authorized the purchase of a patrol car and advertising for applications for a part-time sheriff's deputy.

BENSON -- The Swift County Board of Commissioners authorized the purchase of a patrol car and advertising for applications for a part-time sheriff's deputy.

The vehicle purchase will be made on the state of Minnesota vehicle bid, and the $22,000 cost is budgeted for this year, according to Byron Giese, county auditor. At the regular meeting Tuesday, the board also approved allowing Sheriff Scott Mattison to establish an eligibility list for candidates seeking deputy jobs with the sheriff's department. The list allows the department to complete some of the testing required for hiring law enforcement officials if the candidates are on the list.

The board also rescinded its earlier motion to make the next Swift County Rural Development Authority director a county employee. The change will allow the RDA board to advertise, interview and hire the new director of the organization, Giese said. The director's position has been vacant since Sue Pirsig resigned last fall to become the economic development director in Jackson.
