BENSON -- The Swift County Board on Tuesday raised the fee for filing for a conditional use permit.
The permit fee will now be $350 plus a $46 recording fee.
The previous fee was $250 plus the $46 recording fee, according to County Administrator John Chattin. The actual cost for the county to convene a meeting to consider a conditional use permit is $570.
The board called a special meeting for 9 a.m. Monday for the commissioners to review the sale of land from the county to North American Fertilizer LLC. The property is located next to the FibroMinn plant in Benson. North American wants to covert ash from the plant into fertilizer for agricultural purposes.
The county attorney discovered statutory requirements that apply to the sale after the sale process was started, Chattin said. Therefore, the board and attorney will consider how to remedy the situation at the Oct. 23 meeting.

In other business, the county:
- Approved installing two automatic door openers on the entrance doors at the courthouse to improve handicapped accessibility. The cost is $4,740 plus any necessary electrical work.
- Raised the solid waste assessment from $26 to $30. The assessment is made on any county property that has garbage service and the funds go toward the county's cost for solid waste management.
