WILLMAR -- A 17-year-old New London boy was sentenced Monday to six months of probation and 40 hours of community work service on a fifth-degree drug sale charge for selling marijuana to another student at New London-Spicer schools.
Kellen Ray Bergh was also ordered as part of his probation to attend a chemical awareness class, to submit to random testing and to not use mood-altering chemicals. He was sentenced in Kandiyohi County District Court by District Judge Michael J. Thompson.
Bergh received a stay of adjudication on his sentence. Under the stay, if he complies with the conditions of sentence, no conviction will appear on his record.
Felony charges against 16- and 17-year-old juvenile defendants are public record.
According to the petition, the Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputy working as the school resource officer began investigating a report April 20 that Bergh had sold marijuana to another student. A 15-year-old girl had reported that the transaction occurred between April 10 and 16.

Bergh was interviewed and admitted to selling the marijuana, not for money but as a favor.
Further investigation revealed that the marijuana had been traded by the girl to another 15-year-old girl and most of it had been smoked.
