Teens charged in Warwick murder

WILLMAR - The three teenagers charged in the July murder of Lila Warwick, 79, are Brok Junkermeier, 19, Robert Warwick, 18, and Devon Jenkins, 16, all of Willmar.
Junkermeier and Robert Warwick, who is Lila Warwick’s grandson, were indicted on first-degree murder charges in September for the July 29 homicide at the grandmother’s home on the east edge of Willmar.
Both Junkermeier and Robert Warwick face one count of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of first-degree murder with intent, while committing a felony. Both face the possibility of life in prison if convicted of the charges.
Jenkins has already been sentenced as a juvenile for aiding and abetting murder.
Both Junkermeier and Robert Warwick are held on $2 million bail in the Kandiyohi County Jail. Junkermeier has been in the county jail since Aug. 1, when he was arrested.
Warwick has been in the jail since the Sept. 18 indictment, which moved his case from juvenile to adult court. He was held from the time of his arrest until the indictment at Prairie Lakes Youth Programs in Willmar.
Junkermeier is alleged to have entered Lila Warwick’s garage and waited for her, stabbing and strangling her after making her write him a check from her bank account.
Court documents say that Robert Warwick was the alleged mastermind of the crime, motivated by a large amount of money he suspected was in his grandmother’s possession. The teens also allegedly returned to Lila Warwick’s home after the killing and stole a safe and other items from the residence.
No future hearings have been scheduled for Warwick, as District Judge David Mennis has taken under advisement a motion to suppress Warwick’s statements to law enforcement. Warwick’s attorney, Daniel Mohs, has also said in court that he intends to file a motion for a change of venue to move his client’s trial away from Willmar.
The third teen, Jenkins, pleaded guilty in December to aiding and abetting second-degree murder. During the plea hearing, he said he stayed in Junkermeier’s vehicle outside of Warwick’s home while Junkermeier allegedly committed the murder.
Jenkins was sentenced in January to complete both the secure and non-secure programs at Prairie Lakes, to serve probation until his 21st birthday and to complete 100 hours of community service each year as part of his juvenile sentence.
Under the extended juvenile jurisdiction program, Jenkins’ adult sentence, of 15 years in prison, was stayed and could be executed if he fails to comply with the juvenile sentence requirements.
