Tennis: Marshall edges Willmar 4-3 in non-league battle

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals were denied their second win of the season by the Marshall Tigers who escaped town with 4-3 win Monday in non-conference girls tennis.

Sarah Paterson at 2-singles and Brooklyn Leitch-Heidi Wilson at 3-doubles won three-set matches for the host team (1-9).

In a tight match at 1-singles, Marshall's Danica Louwagie prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 over Emily Kack.

"We had our chances," said Willmar coach Erika Kath. "Still, it was a good match for us."

Marshall improved to 6-8.

Willmar stays at home this week, entertaining Rocori today and St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday in Central Lakes Conference tilts.
