WILLMAR -- The rain stopped one match, but not before Willmar had built up a 5-1 lead and beat St. Cloud Apollo in the Central Lakes Conference boys tennis opener for both teams.
Willmar's Cass Magnuson trailed the Eagles' Joey Lafountaine 3-6, 6-3, 3-1 at 1-singles before it was called off.
Otherwise, the Cardinals (1-0, 5-0) won the other three singles matches in fairly dominant fashion and won two of three doubles matches.
"We're playing pretty well for this time of the year," said Willmar coach Loren Holter. "We're winning some tiebreakers and competing well."
