Tennis: YME tops Monte in Section 3A action

GRANITE FALLS - The Yellow Medicine East Sting reached the quarterfinals of the Section 3A tennis playoffs with a surehanded 6-1 win over Montevideo on Monday.

GRANITE FALLS - The Yellow Medicine East Sting reached the quarterfinals of the Section 3A tennis playoffs with a surehanded 6-1 win over Montevideo on Monday.

The No. 7 seeded Sting (10-8) will next play at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Redwood Falls against No. 2 Redwood Valley.

In the other play-in match Monday, Luverne ousted Pipestone Area 5-2 and will meet No. 1 Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd today.

YME's Carly Barber, Melissa Rasmusson, Jessica Dhoore and Molly Kvam all won in straight sets in singles.

Litchfield (10-8) swept the doubles matches and won two of three 3-set matches to tip New London-Spicer in a match-up of Section 3A rivals.

The Dragon's Casey Willson gave her team a 4-2 advantage by winning her 3-singles match over NLS' Megan Seipel 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The teams will meet again at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Litchfield in the first round of the section team tournament.
