DAWSON -- Terry Gene Fonkert, 59, of Dawson died Tuesday at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Dawson Covenant Church in rural Dawson. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a closing prayer service at 7, at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
He was born Nov. 19, 1947, to Peter and Grace (Beyer) Fonkert in Primghar, Iowa. In 1957, they moved to the farm in Maxwell Township near Dawson. He attended school in Dawson and later Canby VoTech. He moved to Hector and worked as a mechanic at Witte Ford.

He married Theresa Shephard on Sept. 20, 1969. He worked at AGP for 23 years and farmed for the past 10 years.
He is survived by his wife; two sons: Gerrit (and Angie) Fonkert of St. Joseph, Eric (and Tracie) Fonkert of Dawson; one daughter: Kim Fonkert (and Kevin Bellefeuille) of Dawson; three grandchildren; a sister: Janet Gylling (and Cliff Coffin) of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
