The game is on ….. USA Curling National Mixed Championship underway at Willmar Civic Center

The 10 teams leave the Blue Line Arena ice late Saturday afternoon at the close of the opening ceremony. In foreground, in lime sweaters, is Team Washington. The flag and sign bearers are members of Willmar’s Adaptive Program and the Youth Program. Competition began Saturday evening with four draws (games) and continues Sunday with draws starting at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Each team plays a 9-team round-robin with four teams advancing to the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Ceremonial First Rock
Brian Tersteeg of the Adaptive Program, which began two years ago, was designated to throw the first stone. His delivery landed on the button, or the center of the target area, bringing this reaction. With Brian is mentor and Willmar Curling Club member Lee Wierschem.
