BENSON -- Thelma Irene Pahl, 88, of Benson died Sunday at the Swift County-Benson Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Burial will be at St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in DeGraff.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, with a parish prayer service at 4 p.m. and a rosary at 6:30 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

She was born May 2, 1918, in Grace Township, Chippewa County, to Warren and Margaret (Zurn) Payne. The family moved to Cashel Township in Swift County when she was 8 years old. She attended school through the eighth grade.

She married Jesse Pahl on Nov. 2, 1935. They served as foster parents for over 75 children, and were named Swift County Foster Parents of the Year in 1982.

She is survived by her husband; children: Gerald (and Alice) Pahl of West St. Paul, James (and Carol) Pahl of Benson; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Rose Mary (and Vernal) Nokleby of Montevideo, Albert (and Betty) Payne of Starbuck, and Albie (and Henry) Walsh of Benson.

She was preceded in death by one sister.
