Thielke's hot hand crushes Minneapolis

WILLMAR _ Tara Thielke, the freshman guard who played her high school ball for tiny Hancock, had the biggest game of her college career on Saturday in Ridgewater's 89-59 win over Minneapolis.

WILLMAR _ Tara Thielke, the freshman guard who played her high school ball for tiny Hancock, had the biggest game of her college career on Saturday in Ridgewater's 89-59 win over Minneapolis.

Thielke, who grew up on a farm 10 miles from Hancock, sank 10 of 15 field goal attempts on the way to scoring 17 points. Her final ledger for the day also showed 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 11 assists.

Hilary Groothuis had another big game with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The shorthanded Mavericks were led by Charmaine Cross w ith 25 points.

The win moved Ridgewater a step closer to earning a spot in the state tournament. The Lady Warrioirs (6-4, 16-7).
