MANKATO –– Three people were killed and three others were injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision near Mankato.
The crash killed a St. Peter woman and her 5-year-old daughter, and a man from South Dakota in the other vehicle.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident happened at 1 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 169 in Nicollet County, about three miles north of Mankato.
A 2010 Dodge Caliber, driven by Lindi Paul, 36, of St. Peter, was headed south on Highway 169 when she lost control of the vehicle and it crossed the center median and collided with a 2010 Ford F150 pickup truck that was going north.
Paul and her daughter, Emma Paul, 5, were killed in the crash.
The truck was driven by Michael O’Boyle, 65, of Marion, S.D. O’Boyle was killed in the crash and three passengers in the truck were injured.
The State Patrol said Kathryn O’Boyle, 65, of Marion, and Owen O’Boyle, 8, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another passenger in the truck, Annabelle O’Boyle, 4, suffered a serious injury. The hometowns of the two children were not listed in the report.
The road was dry at the time of the accident, according to the State Patrol.
Lindi Paul was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the State Patrol. All others involved in the crash were belted.
Alcohol was not detected in either of the drivers.
Gold Cross Ambulance and Mayo One assisted at the scene.
